How a Little Bit of Brave Creates Generational Confidence…

This past weekend, I took my son Jack on a little Mommy/Baby overnight adventure to Elora. Yes, he’s 14, but our outings will always carry the “Mommy/Baby” brand – I only infantilize him in the marketing, not in real life.

Chad was away on business and my stepson was off with his mom, so it ended up just the two of us. Honestly, I hesitated. Normally, Chad handles directions and logistics, the stuff I lean on for security and structure. This time, it was all on me.

But one of our family Core Values is CHOOSE ADVENTURE. And choosing adventure always comes with a little risk and discomfort. Aka: the need to be brave.

Choosing Adventure Anyway

So I booked the Airbnb.
I bought the tubing tickets.
I packed the car.
And we drove two hours to Elora.

It wasn’t perfect. We left late. We forgot our speaker and had to detour to Walmart. Food was hard to find.

But in the end?

Holy fxck. It was a 10/10.

The sun was hot, the water was clear, and we floated down the river with snacks, drinks, and music in tow. I even packed a floating cooler, a baguette, and a brick of cheese — full “movie montage” vibes.

That night we stayed in a spooky converted church Airbnb (a story for another day), but the whole adventure was pure magic.

The Lesson That Hit Me

On the drive home, it struck me:

One day, Jack will do this same kind of thing on his own. With friends. With a girlfriend. Maybe with his own family.

He’ll pick a random little town, grab some tubes, pack snacks, and choose adventure — because he’s seen how doable it is.

Because I was brave.

When we stretch a little outside our comfort zone, we build confidence. And when we model that courage for our kids, we pass on more than a memory. We pass on Generational Confidence.

What Brave Living Builds

That’s the gift of being brave:

  • It builds confidence.
  • It expands possibility.
  • It creates ripple effects that last for generations.

I gave Jack a memory he’ll never forget. Even better, I gave him a model for how to live — one that will ripple into his choices, his relationships, and maybe even his own kids someday.

That’s the power of choosing adventure.
